The system, which developed off the northern New South Wales coast on Sunday, is expected to intensify and move southwards, bringing potentially destructive conditions to much of the state from Monday night into Tuesday.
Residents from the Mid North Coast down to the South Coast are being urged to prepare for the worst. The BOM has warned of wind gusts potentially exceeding 125 kilometres per hour in elevated areas and coastal districts, capable of bringing down trees and powerlines, and causing significant structural damage. Heavy rainfall is also predicted, with flash flooding a serious concern, particularly in low-lying areas and in regions already saturated from recent weather events. Marine and beach conditions are expected to become hazardous, with significant wave heights and powerful rip currents.

The BOM has issued a range of warnings, including a gale warning for Sydney Coastal waters and a severe weather warning for the Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast, Hunter, Sydney Metropolitan, Illawarra, and South Coast districts. Communities in these areas are advised to secure outdoor items, check their emergency kits, and monitor BOM advice closely. Emergency services are bracing for a busy period, with volunteer rescue organisations on standby.
"We're urging people to take this warning seriously," said Jane Edwards, a senior meteorologist at the BOM. "This is a significant weather event, and the combination of strong winds and heavy rain can create dangerous situations very quickly. It's crucial for everyone to stay informed and heed official advice."

Roads in coastal and elevated areas could be affected by fallen trees, landslides, or flash flooding, leading to closures and significant delays. Power outages are also a distinct possibility due to the forecast wind strengths.
